Compton Bay is also called Hannover Point. The west side of the island is less densely populated and is made
up of beautiful National Trust coastline and land. There are several
chines: breaks in the cliff carved out by a river, enabling access
to the beach. These include Whale Chine, Grange Chine and Chilton
Chine. Further west you will find Brook Bay and Compton Bay. Brook is popular
with dog owners as Compton has a strict no-dog policy. The mainly
sand beach has fabulous views of Freshwater Bay and the Needles,
stretching as far as the Dorset coast on a clear day. It’s
the perfect place to watch the sunset.
A great beach, quiet, clean and had a shore break of a couple
of feet. Very good vibe. Works from 2ft and is best on a moderate south westerly wind with a decent
ground swell. About 2 hours before high the left hand
peak starts to work well. There's a shorey just to the
right at high tide which is best when its about shoulder high. Closes
out a bit when it's clean.
