Bude
Bude, Cornwall
Bude is a bustling seaside resort with a thriving surfing community and consistent beachbreak peaks. Head south to popular Widemouth Bay or north to Duckpool, Sandymouth and Northcott beachies (not the best for beginners).
Bude's two beaches are close to the town, Crooklets and Summerleaze, both face west, work on all tides and hold swells up to about eight feet. The further north, the less the crowds.
Crooklets has a low tide right to the northern end off Wrangles Rocks, hollow and can provide barrels, and a left at the south. Shorey in front of the Surf Club at high tide. Quieter than Summerleaze. Variety of peaks throughout the tidal range. Take care with the rocks at high tide and watch the rips at low. Works best just before low tide all the way through to high tide.
Part of the South West Coast Path with rock pools, canal and dune walks and local nature reserves to explore. Beach cafe, pitch and putt and tennis courts close by plus Crooklets Inn.
Summerleaze boasts a short high tide right at Cross Rocks near the swimming pool and a good left at low. Can be clean in a southwesterly. In between there are numerous sandbank peaks which hold swells up to six feet. South in front of the harbour, a left breaks off Barrel Rock.
